Power frequency and transient
overvoltage protection
In the event of temporary overvoltage at power frequency, the charging station
power supply is disconnected in order to protect the unit.
When the charger is not located at home, such as communal car parks, or
when higher service continuity is desired, we use the reclosing device that
disconnects the vehicle supply in the event of under/overvoltage.
In case of the electronic meter disconnecting due to overload, the reclosing device
disconnects the EV charger, thus the electronic meter is ready to operate
reconnection.
Protection to ensure safety
Installation standards typically set general measures to put in place at electrical
vehicle charging points that normally include the following elements:
1 The installation must be equipped with Type A residual current protection devices with 30 mA sensitivity.
2 Up to the upstream connection point, charging circuits must be protected against overloads and short-circuits with omnipolar C curve disconnection breakers sized according to the charger's characteristics.
3 All circuits must be protected against power frequency and transient overvoltages. The POP “permanent overvoltage protection” device will actuate in the event of an overvoltage between phase and neutral up to 440 V. The transient overvoltage protection device will be coordinated with the other devices in the installation.
